Tata Sierra EV conquers UAE’s Tal Moreeb dune ahead of launch; Boost Mode, AWD and 500+ km range hinted
Tata Motors has unveiled the upcoming Sierra EV conquering Abu Dhabi's challenging Tal Moreeb sand dune, showcasing its robust off-road capabilities. The electric SUV features Terrain Modes, a Boost Mode for extra power, and a dual-motor AWD syste...

The latest footage shows the Tata Sierra EV tackling steep sand dunes in the Liwa Desert, part of the Rub' al Khali (Empty Quarter), where temperatures can exceed 50°C and sand surface temperatures often cross 60°C. Through this extreme desert test, Tata Motors has demonstrated the SUV's capability to perform in some of the harshest driving conditions.
Tata Sierra EV gets Terrain Modes and Boost Mode
One of the biggest revelations from the video is the presence of Terrain Modes, similar to those offered on the Harrier EV. During the dune climb, the digital instrument cluster displays Sand Mode, indicating that the Sierra EV will offer multiple terrain-specific driving modes to optimize performance across different surfaces. The video also confirms the availability of Boost Mode, which appears on the display before the SUV powers up the massive dune. This feature is expected to provide temporary access to maximum power and torque, helping drivers tackle steep inclines, deep sand, and overtaking situations with greater confidence.
Combined with the dual-motor Quad Wheel Drive (QWD) setup, these features could make the Sierra EV one of Tata Motors' most capable electric SUVs to date.
500 Nm torque and dual-motor AWD system
Tata Motors has also confirmed that the Sierra EV produces 500 Nm of torque, enabling it to tackle loose sand and demanding off-road conditions with ease. The intelligent all-wheel-drive system continuously distributes power between the front and rear axles, ensuring optimal traction on challenging terrain. The promotional film captures the electric SUV climbing one of the tallest sand dunes in the world while maintaining stability and grip. Several shots show all four wheels working together as the vehicle powers through deep sand before cresting the dune.
Sierra EV range could exceed 500 km
Another significant detail visible in the video is the instrument cluster displaying 424 km of remaining range with 80% battery charge. While Tata Motors has not officially announced the certified driving range, the reading suggests the Sierra EV could offer a full-charge range of more than 500 km, potentially around 530 km.However, the company has yet to confirm final battery specifications and range figures, making this an early indication rather than an official claim.

The display also features an advanced energy analytics screen that visualizes power flow between the front and rear motors, further confirming the dual-motor AWD configuration.
Production-spec design details revealed
The latest footage provides one of the clearest looks yet at the production-ready Sierra EV. The SUV features gloss black body cladding instead of the grey finish seen on some earlier prototypes. The steering wheel adopts a design similar to the Sierra ICE version, featuring a gloss black centre panel with the traditional Tata logo rather than the illuminated Tata.ev branding used on some of the brand's newer EVs.Other visible features include the alloy wheel design previewed on the Sierra ICE concept, a Head-Up Display (HUD), and a cabin layout that suggests significant component sharing between the internal combustion and electric versions.
Tested in one of the world's toughest deserts
According to Tata Motors, the Sierra EV was tested in conditions typically reserved for highly modified V8-powered off-road vehicles. The company stated that the vehicle used during the challenge was a standard production-spec electric SUV, underlining the advancements in EV technology beyond urban driving.During testing, the Sierra EV reportedly conquered a 50-degree incline, aided by its power-to-weight ratio, AWD system, and optimized wheelbase design.
Tata Sierra EV launch on June 30
With its official launch scheduled for June 30, the Tata Sierra EV is shaping up to be one of the most technologically advanced electric SUVs in Tata Motors' lineup. Combining long-range capability, dual-motor all-wheel drive, Terrain Modes, Boost Mode, and genuine off-road credentials, the Sierra EV aims to revive the legendary Sierra nameplate in a modern electric avatar while appealing to both family buyers and adventure enthusiasts. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
