The weather department has warned of heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in parts of Tamil Nadu, including districts around Chennai. With further spells expected, parents and students are also checking whether schools and colleges have declared a holiday due to rain. However, an IMD weather warning does not automatically mean educational institutions are closed.
Chennai weather today, October 17
Chennai is forecast to experience a generally cloudy sky, with moderate rain and heavy spells at times. Thunderstorms and lightning may accompany showers in some areas, according to IMD's city forecast. The maximum temperature is expected to remain around 32–33°C, with a minimum of about 25–26°C.The latest spell of rain has also put road conditions in focus, particularly in areas where water tends to collect during intense showers. Commuters should expect possible delays, check traffic advisories and exercise caution around waterlogged stretches and underpasses. Rainfall intensity can differ across the city, so conditions on one route may not reflect those elsewhere.
Tamil Nadu school holidays list: Are schools and colleges closed today?
There is no official announcement received on school holidays yet. Schools and colleges in Chennai and other rain-affected districts should not be assumed closed unless the district administration or education department announces a holiday. No confirmed statewide closure announcement for October 17 was found in the official sources reviewed.Parents should check updates from Chennai district authorities and their respective schools before sending children out. Holiday declarations can differ between districts, and an order covering schools may not automatically apply to colleges.
