The Regional Meteorological Centre has forecast that day temperatures may begin to gradually fall by two degrees Celsius over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal areas.

Chennai Rains
There has been no forecast of rainfall, thunderstorms and lightning in Chennai as of March 18, 2026. The IMD said light to moderate rain is likely at isolated places over Coimbatore, Dindigul, Theni and Thoothukudi districts of Tamil Nadu today. Thunderstorms may move to delta and adjoining districts on Wednesday and Thursday. Light rain may occur at one or two places in other districts too. It may be the turn for coastal districts to receive light rainfall between March 20 and March 22.The weather agency has forecast moderate rainfall in the delta districts and adjoining areas on March 18. Similar conditions are expected to persist the following day as well, with a few locations in the delta districts and southern Tamil Nadu likely to receive further rainfall.

On March 19, 2026, light rain is likely at isolated places over the delta and adjoining districts of Tamil Nadu, with a chance of thunderstorms and lightning at one or two locations, while the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry is expected to experience dry weather.On March 20, 2026, light rain may occur at isolated places over the delta districts and south Tamil Nadu, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places, whereas the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry will likely remain dry.
On March 21, 2026, light rain is expected at isolated locations over the Western Ghat districts and south Tamil Nadu, with thunderstorms and lightning at one or two places, while the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal area will likely see dry weather.
On March 22, 2026, light rain is likely at isolated places over the Western Ghat districts and south coastal Tamil Nadu, while the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal area will remain dry.
On March 23, 2026, light rain may occur at isolated places over south coastal Tamil Nadu, with dry weather expected across the rest of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the Karaikal area.
