A viral video from Tamil Nadu shows a pet dog attacking a mother and daughter on a public road. The owners allegedly failed to intervene, instead shutting their gate, leaving the victims to defend themselves. The incident has sparked outrage, with...

According to video shared by Sun News which went viral online, the dog, which was initially inside a residential compound, suddenly rushed out onto the street and attacked the young girl first. Moments later, when the mother tried to shield her daughter and pull her away, the dog continued to lunge at both of them, creating a chaotic and frightening scene.
Eyewitness footage further shows that the dog’s owners—reportedly two women and a man—came out of the house after hearing the commotion. However, instead of attempting to control the animal or assist the victims, they appeared to shut the gate, effectively leaving the dog outside and the victims to fend for themselves.
As the attack intensified, the mother and daughter, in a desperate attempt to protect themselves, were seen throwing sand at the dog. The animal eventually retreated and fled the spot. However, the dog, unable to get back inside the premises, remained at the gate, only to be brutally attacked by the victims later. The dog eventually fled again to save itself.
The incident has triggered widespread outrage on social media, with many users criticising the owners for their inaction and questioning their responsibility as pet keepers.
Under Section 291 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), pet owners can face legal consequences if they negligently fail to control their animal, thereby endangering human life or causing harm. The provision allows for imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to ₹5,000, or both.
Authorities are yet to confirm whether any formal complaint has been registered in connection with the incident.
