A man named Vetrivel in Tamil Nadu’s Dharmapuri area recently bought a car worth Rs 6 lakh by using 60,000 coins, each one of Rs 10. He wanted to create awareness among people to give equal importance to all forms of legal tenders.

He told the media that his mother runs a small shop in his hometown in Arur, Dharmapuri, and people there do not accept Rs 10 coins. Because of this, they could not exchange the Rs 10 coins with their customers, and this had led to a huge collection of Rs 10 coins.

He mentioned that he has seen many young children playing with Rs 10 coins as they say it has no worth at all.

He also added that the Reserve Bank of India has never claimed that the Rs 10 coins are worthless and he fail to understand why people or even the banks not want to accept Rs 10 coins.

This led Vetrivel to collect the coins with which he eventually decided to buy a car. Though the car dealer also did not agree to accept so many coins, but due to his determination they had no other option to accept the coins. He gave the Rs 10 coins in a sack to the car dealership.
