India faces arch-rivals Pakistan in the 2022 Men's T20 Cricket World Cup opening match in Melbourne on October 23. There is a lot of hype and excitement around Sunday's Super 12 match between the cross-border neighbours. However, if reports are to be believed, rain may play a spoilsport in the highly anticipated clash.

According to weather agency Accuweather, the Melbourne metropolis might see rainfall from October 21 onwards itself. On Sunday, according to Accuweather prediction, there is a 69 per cent chance of rain in the city on Sunday (October 23).

Accuweather suggests there might be drizzle on Thursday, and heavier rain will follow for the next few days. There will be rain on Saturday (October 22), but the sun might partly shine. However, the matchday prediction does not seem promising. There is a chance of heavy rainfall with thunderstorms.

The Bureau of Meteorology, Australia said that there is a very high (95%) chance of showers on October 23 in Melbourne. "Cloudy. Very high (95%) chance of showers, most likely in the afternoon and evening. Winds southerly 15 to 25 km/h turning southeasterly during the evening," it has predicted.

Therefore, it is highly likely that the match will wash out and the teams will not play a single ball.

It is to be noted that rain had already played spoilsport in couple of matches in the ongoing T20 world cup. India's second warm-up game against New Zealand at the T20 World Cup was washed out without a ball being bowled due to incessant rain at the Gabba on Wednesday. Pakistan’s warm-up match against Afghanistan in Brisbane on Wednesday also had to be abandoned due to heavy showers.
