Social media users expressed their grievances against food tech giant Swiggy, taking to Twitter on Thursday evening to accuse the platform of levying additional charges on their orders. The users pointed out a discrepancy in the order history page, where the sum of individual items, inclusive of all fees and taxes, did not align with the displayed grand total.

It appeared that users were being charged Rs 3 more than the sum of their orders. Deepak Shenoy, the founder of analyst firm CapitalMind, raised concerns in a viral tweet, stating, "Here’s my last order and it adds up to 255.60. But they charge 259?...It can’t be some random error, it seems to be on purpose to add Rs 3 extra. What’s going on?" This prompted many other users to scrutinize their own order histories, leading to a widespread discussion.

At the time of writing, our reporter conducted an analysis of their previous eight orders dating back to September 10, 2023, and found that they had indeed been charged Rs 3 more than the expected amount.

Responding to these concerns, Swiggy issued a statement to The Times of India (TOI), stating, "We confirm no customers have been overcharged and they have paid the correct amount. This was due to a tech bug, which we have fixed." Swiggy's clarification aimed to assure users that any perceived overcharges were unintentional and attributed solely to a UI glitch that has since been resolved.
