Suzume director Makoto Shinkai hails SS Rajamouli’s Oscar-winner film RRR, calls it ‘new flavour’
Makoto Shinkai, the director of this year’s best anime film Suzume, is all praise for SS Rajamouli's Oscar Award-winning film RRR and called it a ‘new flavour’.

Makoto Shinkai amazed the media and fans present at the press conference in Mumbai, when he said that he got to "learn a lot from Indian (film) directors”.

Shinkai said that he had watched two of SS Rajamouli's best films, RRR (2022) and Baahubali (2015 and 2017). He went on to say that he wants to make a movie like RRR in Japan, where viewers will clap, dance and cheer along! He wants to ensure that with his RRR-like film, "Japanese viewers become Indian viewers."
The Suzume director called RRR a "new flavour" and that it was a notch better than a Hollywood film because of its emotions. "Hollywood doesn't give what RRR can give," he said.
