In a startling turn of events, an incident unfolded in Brooklyn's Brighton Beach neighbourhood, where a stranger intruded upon an interview and planted an unexpected kiss on New York City councilwoman Inna Vernikov of the 48th district. The incident transpired while Vernikov was engaged in an interview with CBS, catching her off guard and leaving her visibly displeased.

As Councilwoman Vernikov was in the midst of her interview, a passerby suddenly entered the frame, leaning in to plant a kiss on her cheek before resuming his stroll. The swift and unexpected act prompted a startled response from Vernikov, who reacted with evident discomfort and voiced her astonishment with an expletive.

While Vernikov labeled the incident 'creepy,' she hasn't filed a formal complaint with law enforcement.

On the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), she remarked, "Not the kind of love I'd expect from constituents!," unequivocally characterising the occurrence as "creepy."

In solidarity and condemnation of the man's behavior, fellow city council member Lynn Schulman took to social media, expressing her strong disapproval. Schulman's post asserted, "This is abhorrent and disgusting... I hope the assailant is found. Sadly, even in 2023, this type of unacceptable behavior is still happening to women. I stand with you, @InnaVernikov."

Online discussions have steered towards expectations of a more assertive reaction from the councilwoman in response to the incident, acknowledging the challenge of reacting promptly in unexpected situations.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of recent remarks made by New York City Mayor Eric Adams, sparking debates surrounding the concept of 'Eye Candy.' Instances like that involving Vernikov underscore the ongoing need for a secure and equitable justice system, ensuring the safety and well-being of women in public spaces.
