Succession season 4 episode 5 recap: All you need to know
Succession's fourth season episode 5 comes full of witty and humorous one-liners, but the significant part is that it partially resolves the GoJo deal that has been eagerly anticipated since the end of season three.

The fifth episode of the final season of Succession is packed with one-liners, and the most important part is that it somewhat resolves the GoJo deal that has been awaited since the season three finale. It turns out that GoJo founder Lukas Matsson, played by Alexander Skarsgård, manipulates co-CEOs Kendall and Roman and their relatively disenfranchised sister, Shiv. The episode shows how brilliantly Matsson plays the Roy children to come out on top, much like Logan.
Matsson appeals to Kendall's ego and in the beginning of the episode, he exudes confidence as he welcomes his new team and dismisses them. Matsson focuses on Kendall's significant weakness, his pride, and particularly his desire to see himself as equal to his father.
The balance of power changes when the Waystar delegation arrives on Matsson's territory. Matsson takes swipes at the brothers' negotiating prowess, mocks Ken's personal projects, and says that he doesn't care what Ken thinks because he is a tribute band.
Matsson also hurts Roman's feelings because he is emotional and unpredictable, which is something Matsson does not want. Matsson aims to determine what the Waystar board desires and present it to them directly, bypassing the Roy siblings.
Roman gives him that excuse by informing him that the board wants to go through with the acquisition, but the brothers are not on board, which makes them difficult to negotiate with.
At the end of the episode, the camera focuses on a close-up shot of someone's smile, but it is not clear who it is. However, it is suggested that it could be Shiv Roy's smile, which suggests that she may have won something. However, the real winner of the episode is Lukas Matsson.
