A 34-year-old yoga teacher in Karnataka narrowly escaped death after being abducted, assaulted, and buried by her kidnappers, thanks to her exceptional control over breathing techniques. The incident, which took place on October 23, saw Tamannah (name changed) being abducted near Devanahalli, taken to a remote forest, and subjected to brutal treatment by her captors, as reported by TOI.

A terrifying ordeal

Tamannah was abducted by a group of five, including a woman, at the behest of Bindu, who had suspected her of being involved with her husband. According to TOI citing police reports, Bindu had asked Satish Reddy, a private detective, to investigate Tamannah’s relationship with her husband. Satish befriended the yoga teacher, under the guise of learning yoga from her, and tricked her into accompanying him for a rifle-shooting session on the morning of October 23. However, once in his car, Tamannah was joined by three other men and a juvenile, and they drove her to a forest area in Dhanamittenahalli, around 30 km from Devanahalli.

Kidnapped, buried alive yoga teacher escapes after pretending to be dead

Once there, the group threatened Tamannah, stripped, molested, and attempted to strangle her with a cable. At that moment, her yoga training proved to be a lifesaver. Tamannah used her breathing techniques to feign death, and her captors, assuming she was dead, buried her in a shallow pit and fled, taking her jewellery with them.

Surviving and escaping

Despite being buried, Tamannah was not dead. Using her presence of mind and yoga techniques, she managed to free herself from the shallow grave. She borrowed clothes from locals and sought help, eventually making her way to a government hospital in Sidlaghatta, Chikkaballapur, a day later.

The arrests

As per police arrested six people in connection with the crime, including Bindu, Satish Reddy, and four others. Bindu, the woman who orchestrated the abduction, had been suspicious of her husband Santosh Kumar's relationship with Tamannah. Satish Reddy, who had befriended Tamannah to gather information, was also arrested along with Ramana (34), Nagendra Reddy (35), Ravichandra (27), and the juvenile.
