"Potholed roads are Chennai's hallmark...": Karti Chidambaram questions Corporation's study tours to Europe, says 'visit Indore first'

Congress MP Karti Chidambaram on Tuesday criticised the Chennai Corporation for sending officials to Europe to learn waste management techniques. Posting on X (formerly Twitter), Chidambaram questioned whether the corporation had implemented any ideas from previous study tours.


“What learning and implementation of a practice from any of the previous study tours can the @chennaicorp name? Poor garbage management, street dogs and cattle, broken sidewalks, and potholed roads are the hallmark of Chennai. Visit Indore to start with," he wrote.


Chidambaram's comments were a response to a post by Namma Chennai, which highlighted the planned visit of Chennai officials to Europe in May. According to the post, the World Bank will support the officials' visit to cities like Barcelona to study advanced waste management techniques.

The MP also suggested that officials should first visit Indore, a city known for its effective waste management practices, before considering international trips.

"Visit Indore to start with," he added.
