A four-year-old girl sustained serious injuries after being attacked by a group of stray dogs in Bengaluru’s Sahakarnagar area on Sunday evening, according to a report of the Times of India. As per the report, the incident occurred near the indoor stadium in CQAL Layout.

The child, identified as Sangeetha, suffered wounds to her face, hands, and legs. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors administered anti-rabies treatment. Medical sources indicated that she is currently recovering.

According to CCTV footage, the girl, whose parents are construction workers from Yadgir district, was walking near the stadium at around 4:30 pm when six stray dogs surrounded and attacked her. Neighbours reportedly rushed to her aid and managed to rescue her from the animals.

Speaking about the incident, the girl's father, Hanumantha, said that local residents often feed the dogs. As a result, the animals are familiar with people in the area but can become hostile toward strangers or newcomers.

The attack has sparked anger among residents and prompted officials from the Bengaluru North City Corporation’s animal husbandry department to visit the location and gather details from the community.

Corporation Commissioner Pommala Sunil Kumar told TOI that measures would be taken against aggressive stray dogs. He said authorities would remove the animals involved in the attack and monitor them closely. He also acknowledged that any unattended complaints regarding stray dogs would be reviewed and assured residents that officials had been instructed to reassess all pending cases. Kumar added that preparations for an animal shelter facility are currently underway.

Residents of CQAL Layout say fear of stray dogs has become a constant concern, particularly for children, elderly people, morning walkers, delivery workers, and sanitation staff. Many claim that dogs captured by civic authorities are frequently released back into the same neighbourhood after a short period.

Saroja Krishnaswamy, a local resident, said the community has repeatedly raised the issue but often feels ignored. She noted that CCTV footage of the latest attack provided undeniable proof of the danger residents face and urged authorities to treat the matter with greater urgency.

Another resident, Pramod, a tutor living in the area, emphasized that the community is not opposed to dogs but believes public safety must come first. He said multiple incidents involving stray dogs have affected residents, students, security personnel, and others in the locality.

The latest case adds to a series of stray dog-related incidents reported across Bengaluru. Public concern over the effectiveness of existing animal-control measures has continued to grow, particularly after several serious attacks in recent years, including the death of a 68-year-old man who was reportedly mauled by stray dogs in Kodigehalli last year.
