Stray dogs relased in Niphad Nagar Panchayat office as part of protest by Yuva Sena accusing them of neglecting complaints relating to canine menace

Yuva Sena district chief Vikram Randhave and his supporters staged an unusual protest on Wednesday over the alleged rise in the stray dog population in Niphad, releasing four to five small stray dogs inside the office of the Nagar Panchayat’s chief officer, as per a TOI report.

The protesters also placed the dogs on Chief Officer Dheeraj Bhamre’s table and decorated it with a garland made of currency notes. The demonstration was aimed at highlighting what they alleged was the civic body’s failure to take effective measures against the stray dog menace.

Protesters cite dog bites, road accident risks

According to the protesters, the number of stray dogs in Niphad town and nearby areas has increased considerably, resulting in several incidents of dog bites. They claimed children, women, senior citizens and two-wheeler riders were particularly vulnerable.


They further alleged that groups of stray dogs had created fear among residents and raised the possibility of attacks and road accidents.

Randhave said residents had repeatedly sought measures including sterilisation drives, dog-catching teams and sustained programmes to control the stray dog population. However, despite several complaints and memorandums submitted to the administration, no effective action had been taken, he alleged.

Protest inside civic office causes commotion

The protesters said releasing the dogs inside the Nagar Panchayat office was intended to demonstrate directly to civic officials the seriousness of the problem. The unusual action briefly caused a commotion at the Nagar Panchayat headquarters.

“People no longer want assurances, they want action,” the protesters said, warning that they would intensify their agitation if the administration failed to address the issue.

Randhave said residents could again stage protests inside government offices if concrete measures were not initiated.

Nagar Panchayat promises action

Chief Officer Dheeraj Bhamre later assured the protesters that the administration would immediately review the issue. He said the Nagar Panchayat had already begun measures to sterilise stray dogs and would take additional steps to control their growing population in Niphad.
