KnotDating CEO AI startups
At a time when artificial intelligence is literally everywhere- from our offices to homes- Knot Dating CEO Jasveer Singh recently shared advice asking people to 'stop trying to put AI everywhere', saying that merely adding AI in the pitch doesn’t make it a product. He took a blunt take on how founders are approaching AI these days saying that they neither understand the problem, nor the user and definitely not the 'solution'. He also shared a screenshot of a private conversation about using AI in a dating/marriage context where Jasveer Singh explains why the idea won’t work in practice.

“I don’t want to say this, but 90% of founders in India have no idea what they’re doing with AI,” he said in a strongly-worded post, adding that many pitches promise to fix engagement, retention, and growth without a clear foundation.

'AI added but problem not understood'

The Gurugram startup founder stated in the post that a large number of founders pitching AI-driven solutions do not actually understand the problems they are trying to solve. According to the CEO, the core issue is a lack of clarity around users and problems.

Sharing some personal experiences, he said whenever he asks basic questions many ideas “collapse” because founders have not deeply understood:

The actual problem they are solving
The user they are building for

The effectiveness of their proposed solution

'Lazy thinking creeping in'

Giving a warning that imply adding AI to a pitch does not automatically make it a product, he highlighted that a trend called "lazy thinking" is creeping in. By this he meant, AI is being used as a buzzword rather than a meaningful tool.

Instead of first identifying the problem and then building solutions, he said many founders are “throwing AI on top and hoping it works.”

AI works only when fundamentals are strong

He emphasized that AI is powerful only when:

The problem is clearly defined

The data being used is strong and relevant
Edge cases and real-world scenarios are properly understood

Without these foundations, he suggested, AI-led products are unlikely to succeed in the long run.

‘Understand the problem first’

Concluding his post, Jasveer Singh urged founders to stop trying to apply AI everywhere just for the sake of it. “Start by understanding what actually needs to be solved,” he noted, highlighting that real innovation comes from clarity, not hype.

Social media reaction

"I would love to see knot dating trying out AI to Match more relevant people. I beleive a couple of players already doing this. I would be amazing to see the "Black mirror" episode happening in real life," one user commented. "People nowadays lack refined thinking with structured approach," said another.

"I like the way you reply, very straightforward, no hi hello, just to the point," wrote another. "That’s fine, they will eventually figure it out! It’s part of the learning and hustling. Learn from mistakes and iterate. A good entrepreneurial culture never puts anyone down but only helps others get better. Sadly, it’s not common here," another person suggested.
