The controversy traces back to the second Test between Pakistan national cricket team and Bangladesh national cricket team at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, where Bangladesh completed a crushing 2-0 series whitewash over Pakistan.
Marcus Stoinis recreates Rizwan moment in gully cricket
The incident gained another layer after videos surfaced online showing Marcus Stoinis recreating Rizwan’s behaviour during a casual gully cricket game. In the viral clip, Stoinis hilariously steps away multiple times before facing the ball, imitating Rizwan’s repeated delays from the Sylhet Test. The Australian’s playful trolling quickly caught attention online, with cricket fans linking it directly to Rizwan’s controversial stoppages against Bangladesh.
Social media users widely shared the video, with many calling it one of the funniest cricket crossover moments of the week.
Rizwan’s stoppages spark heated exchange
The flashpoint came on Day 4 during Pakistan’s difficult chase of 437. Rizwan, trying to hold the innings together amid falling wickets, repeatedly stepped away from the crease and complained about movement behind the sightscreen. His actions visibly frustrated Bangladesh wicketkeeper Litton Das, who confronted him directly on the field. Stump microphones picked up the sharp exchange between the two players.
“What are you doing?” Litton asked Rizwan after another interruption.
When Rizwan pointed towards the sightscreen and explained the distraction, Litton replied: “Why are you looking over there? Focus on your batting here.”
Rizwan hit back instantly and questioned Litton’s involvement in the matter.
“Is that your job, mine, or the umpire’s?”
The argument briefly intensified before umpires stepped in to calm both sides.
Bangladesh fielders continue the sledging
Even after the confrontation cooled down, Bangladesh players kept chirping from close-in positions. Several comments were picked up clearly on the stump microphones, turning the tense moment into viral social media content. One player joked using a famous dialogue from the Bollywood film Hera Pheri:
“For overacting, we’ll dock 50 paise.”
Another fielder mocked Rizwan by saying:
“You are acting well; you want to teach everyone.”
The comments kept coming as Bangladesh players accused Rizwan of trying to slow the game and disturb the bowlers’ rhythm during Pakistan’s resistance.
Bangladesh complete historic clean sweep
While the sledging grabbed headlines, Bangladesh also scripted another major milestone in Test cricket. The hosts defeated Pakistan by 78 runs in the second Test to seal a dominant 2-0 series sweep. After collapsing to 116/6 in the first innings, Bangladesh recovered through a brilliant century from Litton Das. Pakistan fought back through bowlers including Abbas and Khurram Shahzad, but Bangladesh’s bowlers later dismantled the visitors’ batting lineup.
Veteran batter Mushfiqur Rahim then powered Bangladesh ahead with a superb 137 in the second innings, helping set Pakistan a massive target of 437.
Pakistan showed resistance through Rizwan and Salman Ali Agha, who stitched together a strong partnership to keep hopes alive briefly. Rizwan narrowly missed a century after falling for 94.
Spinner Taijul Islam eventually sealed the match with six wickets in the innings as Bangladesh bowled Pakistan out for 358 to complete another memorable series win.
