SSC JE Recruitment 2026 application begins

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has opened the online application process for SSC JE Recruitment 2026, inviting eligible candidates to apply for 1,748 vacancies across various government organisations and offices. The recruitment also covers Scientific Assistant posts in the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Candidates can submit their forms from September 2 to September 22, 2026, through the official website, ssc.gov.in.

The recruitment offers Group 'B' posts at Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission, with a pay scale ranging from Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400.

  • Visit the official SSC website, ssc.gov.in.

  • Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) if you have not already registered. The old OTR created through ssc.nic.in will not be valid.

  • Log in and select the Junior Engineer Examination 2026 application link.

  • Enter your personal, educational and post-preference details.

  • Upload your photograph and signature in the prescribed format. Candidates using Aadhaar-based authentication do not need to upload these separately.

  • Pay the application fee of Rs 100. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempt.

  • Preview the application and check all details carefully before final submission.

  • Submit the form and keep a printout of the completed application for future reference.

SSC JE Recruitment 2026 apply online

The SSC JE 2026 application window has opened on September 2, 2026. Candidates interested in the 1,748 available posts must complete the online application by September 22, 2026, up to 11 pm.

The application fee can be paid until September 23, 2026, by 11 pm. Candidates will also get an opportunity to make corrections in their applications from September 28 to 30, 2026, until 11 pm.

SSC JE Recruitment 2026 vacancy details

SSC has announced a tentative 1,748 vacancies for the Junior Engineer Examination 2026. The posts are distributed among organisations and departments including the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), Central Public Works Department (CPWD), Military Engineer Services (MES), Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Central Water Commission and the India Meteorological Department.

SSC JE Recruitment 2026 application fee

Candidates applying for SSC JE Recruitment 2026 are required to pay an application fee of Rs 100. Women candidates, along with those belonging to SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen categories, are exempt from paying the fee.

The application fee can be paid online through BHIM UPI, net banking or Visa, MasterCard, Maestro and RuPay credit or debit cards. The last date to complete the fee payment is September 23, 2026, up to 11 pm.

SSC JE 2026 eligibility criteria

The educational qualification depends on the post for which a candidate is applying.

For Junior Engineer (Civil), candidates need a degree or diploma in Civil Engineering, with relevant experience required for posts where diploma holders are specified.

For Junior Engineer (Electrical/Mechanical), candidates require a degree or diploma in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.

For the JE (Telecom) post under DoT, eligibility includes a bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Technology in Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, Information Technology or Instrumentation.

Candidates applying for Scientific Assistant in IMD require either a bachelor’s degree in Science with Physics or a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electronics or IT, or an Engineering degree in Telecommunications.

SSC JE 2026 age limit and relaxation

The minimum age requirement is 18 years. The maximum age is 30 years for most posts, while candidates applying for CPWD and Director General of Lighthouses & Lightships posts can be up to 32 years old. Age will be calculated as on August 1, 2026.

Age relaxation is applicable according to the prescribed categories. SC/ST candidates get five years, while OBC candidates get three years. PwBD candidates are eligible for 10 years of relaxation in the Unreserved/EWS category, 13 years for OBC and 15 years for SC/ST.

Ex-Servicemen candidates are eligible for three years of relaxation after deduction of the period of military service.

Who can apply for SSC JE 2026?

Eligible candidates include citizens of India, subjects of Nepal and Bhutan, and persons of Indian origin who have migrated from specified countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

There is also a specific restriction for the Border Roads Organisation. Only male candidates are eligible for Junior Engineer posts in BRO.

SSC JE salary 2026

Candidates selected through the recruitment process will be appointed to Group 'B' posts under Level-6 of the 7th Central Pay Commission Pay Matrix.

The specified pay scale is Rs 35,400 to Rs 1,12,400. In-hand salary will depend on applicable allowances under government rules and the location of posting.

Documents required for SSC JE application

Candidates should keep the necessary documents ready before filling out the application. These include an Aadhaar card for OTR and authentication, along with a recent photograph and signature where Aadhaar authentication is not being used.

Applicants may also need educational qualification certificates and marksheets, category certificates for SC, ST, OBC or EWS candidates where applicable, PwBD certificates, Ex-Servicemen documents and a valid identity document showing the date of birth.
