However, the film sparked controversy after it was revealed that SS Rajamouli spent Rs 80 crore on RRR's campaigning. SS Rajamouli's son, SS Karthikeya, who was a vocal supporter of the 'Naatu Naatu' Oscar campaign, has finally spoken out about the rumours.

According to Karthikeya, the original budget for the Oscar campaign was Rs. 5 crores. They intended to spend the budget in three stages. They spent between Rs. 2.5 crore and Rs 3 crore in the first phase. The budget was increased after receiving the nominations. He revealed that they eventually spent Rs 8.5 crore, as per reports.

Karthikeya also revealed that it was a heartbreaking moment for them when 'RRR' was denied an official Oscar nomination from India. He went on to say that if the film had been sent officially, its chances of winning an Oscar would have been better.
