'Spoiled the whole atmosphere': Yash reveals he played Lord Shiva songs loudly on the 'Ramayana' set because he 'wanted to be in that trance'

Actor Yash has shared an unusual behind-the-scenes story from the sets of Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana, revealing that he relied on loud devotional music dedicated to Lord Shiva to prepare for his role as Ravana.

Speaking during the film's promotions at San Diego Comic-Con, Yash said the music helped him stay immersed in the mindset of the legendary character throughout filming.

Yash says Shiva songs helped him prepare for Ravana

During an interaction with Review Nation, Yash explained that he would play Shiva songs at full volume before shooting his scenes to get into character.


"I kind of spoiled the whole atmosphere of the set. I used to be very serious," the actor said.

He added that Ravana's devotion to Lord Shiva inspired his preparation.

"I used to get big speakers and just play music in full volume. So, I used to be in that zone. I used to play Shiva songs. Ravana is a big devotee of Lord Shiva. I used to play that and I wanted to be in that trance. Forcefully, all of them would talk with lot of difficulty because the music used to be so loud," Yash said.

Nitesh Tiwari recalls Yash's unique routine on set

During the same conversation, director Nitesh Tiwari reminded Yash about his unconventional preparation process, recalling how the actor would regularly blast music while getting ready for his scenes.

According to the filmmaker, the loud devotional tracks became a familiar part of the atmosphere whenever Yash was preparing to portray Ravana.

Ranbir Kapoor says he heard stories about Yash's preparation

Although Ranbir Kapoor has not yet filmed scenes with Yash, the actor said he had already heard plenty of stories from cast and crew members about Yash's energetic presence on set.

Ranbir said the team often spoke about the loud music that accompanied Yash's preparation for the role.

'Ramayana' trailer launch postponed after leaks

The film has also attracted attention after footage from its trailer surfaced online on more than one occasion.

As cited by The Times of India (TOI), producer Namit Malhotra confirmed that the global trailer launch had been postponed following the repeated leaks.

According to TOI, Malhotra said the makers want to present Ramayana to a worldwide audience on a much larger scale through its partnership with Sony Pictures Entertainment, adding that the film represents an opportunity to showcase India's cultural heritage to global audiences.

'Ramayana' cast and release date

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, Ramayana stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash as Ravana. The first instalment of the mythological epic is scheduled to release in cinemas during Diwali 2026.

Meanwhile, Yash will next be seen in Toxic, which is slated to hit theatres on 26 August.
