Doctors Monitoring Condition Closely
Sharing an update on his health, Dr Satish Lamba noted that while Wangchuk is currently stable and mentally alert, his condition is being closely observed for any signs of deterioration.Medical Update on Vital Signs
“Today, on the 19th day of hunger strike, his total weight loss exceeds 9 kilograms. His blood sugar today is 80 mg/dL, and his pulse is 72 beats per minute. His blood pressure readings are 105/61 mmHg while lying down and 101/65 mmHg while sitting. His hydration status is fair, and he is mentally alert,” Lamba said.Refuses to End Fast Despite Appeals
Despite repeated requests from political leaders, supporters, and even legal efforts seeking directions to end his hunger strike, Sonam Wangchuk has remained firm in his decision. He said calling off the protest without any response from the government would send the wrong signal."If I eat, what message will go? The message to the government will be that there is no need for accountability. Protesters sit and leave..." said Wangchuk, questioning what would change if he ended his fast.
Responds to Public Concern
In a video message shared late Wednesday night, marking Day 18 of his hunger strike, Wangchuk acknowledged the concern pouring in from across the country."I have received thousands of messages asking me to break my fast. Many senior politicians have come to me and spoken to me with love and concern."
He also mentioned that some individuals had approached the court seeking directions to make him eat.
Health Condition and Medical Updates
Wangchuk maintained that his condition is still stable despite the prolonged fast."Yes, there is weakness and my muscles are getting weak, but my heart and core are still fine," he added.
Calls for Public Participation
Rather than urging him to end the fast, Wangchuk appealed to his supporters to join the upcoming protest march. He called on people to participate in large numbers in the CJP’s planned "Chalo Sansad" march on July 20, aiming to send a strong message to the government. The Economic Times Business News App for the Latest News in Business, Sensex, Stock Market Updates & More.
