According to the Hindu calendar, the Amavasya Tithi begins on June 14 and continues into June 15. Since the tithi remains present at sunrise on June 15, the day will be observed as Somvati Amavasya. The occasion is associated with the worship of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, along with rituals for ancestors, holy bathing and charitable activities.

When is Somvati Amavasya 2026?

According to the Hindu calendar, the Amavasya Tithi will begin at 12:20 pm on Sunday, June 14, 2026, and continue until 8:24 am on Monday, June 15, 2026.

There has been confusion among people about whether Amavasya should be observed on June 14 or June 15. As per the Udaya Tithi rule, the tithi that prevails at sunrise is considered valid for observing fasts and festivals. Since Amavasya will be present at sunrise on June 15, the observance will take place on Monday, June 15, 2026.


As the Amavasya falls on a Monday, it is known as Somvati Amavasya.

Somvati Amavasya 2026: Auspicious Time for Bathing and Charity

Bathing and charity performed during Brahma Muhurta on Somvati Amavasya are considered highly significant.

  • On June 15, the Brahma Muhurta will be from 4:03 am to 4:43 am.
  • The Abhijit Muhurat will be from 11:54 am to 12:50 pm.
Devotees may perform bathing, worship and charitable activities during these periods.

Special Yogas on Somvati Amavasya

Sarvarth Siddhi Yoga and Amrit Siddhi Yoga will also be formed on Somvati Amavasya.
The auspicious period will remain from 5:23 pm to 7:08 pm.

Somvati Amavasya June 2026 Significance

Monday is dedicated to Lord Shiva in Hindu tradition. When Amavasya falls on a Monday, its religious importance is believed to increase.

According to religious beliefs, worshipping Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati on Somvati Amavasya brings happiness, prosperity and harmony in married life. The day is also considered auspicious for seeking peace for ancestors through Tarpan and Shraddha rituals.

It is believed that bathing in a holy river and making donations on this day help devotees seek freedom from sins and bring positive energy into life.

Married women, especially, observe a fast on this day for the long life and well-being of their husbands.

Rituals to Follow on Somvati Amavasya

Devotees are advised to wake up before sunrise and take a bath. If possible, a bath in a holy river such as the Ganga is considered beneficial.

Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati should be worshipped in a temple or at home. Devotees may perform abhishek using water and raw milk and offer Belpatra, Akshat and Tilak. Shiva Aarti and mantra chanting are also part of the observance.

Worshipping and circumambulating the Peepal tree is considered important on this day.

Many devotees also perform Tarpan and Shraddha rituals for their ancestors.

Somvati Amavasya: Importance of Donations

Donations hold special significance on Amavasya. It is believed that charity performed on this day brings manifold benefits. Items commonly donated include rice, flour, pulses, salt, fruits, vegetables and white-coloured items such as milk and sugar.

Things to Avoid on Somvati Amavasya

Devotees are advised to avoid meat, alcohol and tamasic food on this day. Religious traditions also recommend staying away from anger, harsh speech and negative thoughts. People should avoid insulting others, keep away from bad company and maintain a calm and positive state of mind throughout the observance.
