“Sometimes a king has to remind you why he is the king,” says Ranveer Singh on Kohli’s century

Virat Kohli led a sensational start for India in the first ODI of the three-match series against South Africa at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday. He scored his 52nd ODI century, completing the milestone in 102 balls, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 51 centuries in a single format. Kohli reached the century with a four off South Africa’s Marco Jansen and received a standing ovation from the Indian dressing room.

Moments after the milestone, a fan entered the field and fell at Kohli’s feet. Security personnel quickly escorted the individual off the ground, allowing Kohli to continue his celebrations and thank God for the achievement.

Actor Ranveer Singh praised Kohli’s performance on Instagram, sharing a picture of the cricketer along with the title track of his upcoming film, Dhurandhar. Ranveer wrote, “Sometimes a king has to remind you why he is the king,” adding that witnessing the match made his Sunday feel like a blessing.

Return to competitive cricket

Kohli’s performance marked a memorable return to competitive cricket, having last played in the third ODI against Australia on October 25. Now active solely in the ODI format, he demonstrated his enduring form with a commanding innings that anchored India’s start in the series.
