Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen Plot and Ending Explained
The story centers on Rachel and Nicky as they travel to meet his family ahead of their wedding. What begins as unease soon spirals into paranoia, with Rachel convinced that Nicky’s family poses a threat to her life. But as events unfold, a darker truth emerges—the danger isn’t external, it’s tied to her own lineage.During a stop on their journey, Rachel encounters a mysterious elderly man who reveals himself to be her ancestor. He explains that the Harkin family is bound by a terrifying curse: unless a Harkin marries their true soulmate, they are doomed to die brutally on their wedding night. The man himself once failed to marry the person he loved, causing the curse—originally belonging to another family—to attach itself to his bloodline. As punishment, he now lives on as an immortal witness to every doomed wedding in the family.
The finale brings everything to a head at Rachel and Nicky’s wedding. Despite learning about the curse, Nicky ultimately backs out at the altar. That single decision triggers devastating consequences. The curse shifts to the Cunningham family, and guests who are not soulmates begin to suffer violent, fatal reactions.
In a desperate attempt to undo the damage, Nicky tries to force the marriage, but it’s too late. Rachel collapses along with the others, seemingly dead. However, in a haunting final twist, she awakens the next morning surrounded by blood—now cursed with immortality, destined to witness future tragedies just like her ancestor.
Will There Be a Season 2 of Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen?
As of now, Netflix has not officially confirmed a second season. The show’s future remains uncertain, with creator Haley Z. Boston offering mixed hints in interviews.Boston told ScreenRant that the series as originally designed to be a limited story, suggesting it works as a complete narrative on its own. At the same time, she hasn’t ruled out continuing it. She has floated the idea of turning the show into an anthology, where each season explores a different existential fear through a new storyline.
There’s also room to revisit the existing characters. Boston in an interview with Deadline mentioned possibilities like future weddings connected to the curse, where Rachel—now immortal—could return as a witness.
For now, the show sits in that uneasy space: finished, but not entirely closed. Which, honestly, fits its tone a little too well.
