‘Some milestones are worth far more than numbers’: Pune CEO celebrates 30-year-old trainer who started working at 13, bought first home

A Pune-based entrepreneur has shared the story of his personal trainer, Akash, after the 30-year-old bought his first home, a 2BHK in Pune. Sandeep Kulkarni said the purchase was particularly meaningful because Akash had started earning when he was just 13 and later built a career in fitness through years of learning, hard work and an independent client base.

From working at 13 to building a career in fitness

Kulkarni shared Akash’s story in a post on X, saying the trainer’s home purchase meant much more to him than a routine financial achievement.



“My personal trainer Akash bought his first home today. A 2BHK in Pune. He is 30. For most people reading this, buying a house may sound like an ordinary financial milestone. Knowing where he started, I think it is extraordinary,” Kulkarni wrote.

According to Kulkarni, Akash began working at a doctor's clinic when he was barely 13 and stayed there for several years.

His life later took a different direction after he became interested in fitness. Kulkarni said Akash had once been overweight himself before taking up exercise seriously and eventually training professionally as a fitness instructor.

What impressed his client the most

For Kulkarni, Akash’s background was not the only reason to admire his journey. He highlighted the trainer’s approach to his profession.

“What has always impressed me about him isn't his background. It is how seriously he takes his craft.”

Kulkarni said Akash rarely arrives late and has developed strong knowledge of workouts, stretching and nutrition. He also praised the trainer’s communication skills and professional conduct.

“He is almost never late. His understanding of workouts, stretching and nutrition is excellent. His communication and demeanour are thoroughly professional. Much of what he knows has come from an extraordinary willingness to keep learning and improving himself.”

How the trainer built his own clientele

Akash’s move into independent personal training also played an important role in the story.

Kulkarni recalled that there was a period when the gym was facing difficulties in paying its trainer’s salary. Akash then began “taking up personal training independently”.

That was when Kulkarni became one of his early clients.

“Over the years I have watched him slowly build a clientele, his reputation and his life. Today he bought his own 2BHK.”

For the CEO, watching that progress made the home purchase especially emotional.

“I felt genuinely proud of him today. Some milestones are worth far more than the number written on the cheque.”

CEO’s message on upward mobility

Kulkarni also used Akash’s journey to make a broader point about economic opportunities and professional skills.

“There are many ways in which India still makes upward mobility unnecessarily difficult. But there is also something remarkable happening around us: if a person can acquire a valuable skill, build a reputation and reach customers directly, his starting point does not necessarily have to determine his finishing point,” he wrote.

The post has since drawn reactions from social media users, with several people congratulating Akash and praising Kulkarni for sharing his story.
