The ceremony was scheduled to take place in Sangli, Maharashtra on 23 November, but was cancelled due to unavoidable medical emergencies within the families. The wedding was put on hold after Smriti Mandhana’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, was admitted to hospital due to a heart condition. Shortly after, Palash Muchhal also required hospitalisation after developing viral symptoms and acidity issues.

Both were discharged later, but the family decided to postpone the wedding until health stabilised. Soon after, Palak Muchhal, Palash’s sister, issued a statement confirming that the wedding had been “put on hold”.

The delay has also played out on social media. After the wedding was postponed, Smriti Mandhana deleted all wedding- and engagement-related posts, including the viral video of Palash’s dreamy stadium proposal at the DY Patil Stadium.
Last week, both Smriti and Palash added an evil eye emoji to their Instagram bios, fuelling speculation among fans about an attempt to ward off negativity.
