SIR reunites two brothers after 35 years

A routine voter-list verification exercise in Haryana led to an emotional family reunion when two brothers who had been separated for nearly 35 years finally found each other. According to a report by TOI, the unexpected reunion took place at Government Senior Secondary School in Manoharpur, Jind district, during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. What began as a routine verification of voter details turned into a deeply emotional moment for the two brothers and everyone who witnessed it.

SIR reunited brothers: Unexpected family reunion

The reunion began when Sita Ram visited the school to collect his school-leaving certificate. During the verification process, the Booth Level Officer (BLO) asked him about his village, father's name and other family details.

As Sita Ram spoke about his family, he mentioned his brother, Dalbir Singh. The BLO decided to call Dalbir to verify the information, setting in motion an unexpected reunion.

Brother recognises Sita Ram after 35 years

When Dalbir heard Sita Ram's name, he immediately recognised it. According to the TOI report, he told the BLO that Sita Ram was his brother and that he had been searching for him for the past 35 years.

Dalbir then rushed to the school. After decades apart, the brothers finally came face to face.

The emotional meeting quickly turned into an embrace, with both brothers breaking down as they reunited. Their reunion also left others present at the school visibly moved.

How a routine voter verification exercise brought them together

The crucial moment came when the BLO decided to make a call after hearing Sita Ram mention his brother's name. What could have remained an ordinary exchange of family details during the SIR process instead became the link that brought the siblings back together.

Additional Assistant Electoral Registration Officer Dr Ramesh Kumar, who witnessed the reunion, said the incident demonstrated how a routine administrative exercise could sometimes help reconnect separated families.

For Sita Ram and Dalbir Singh, the voter-list verification process became much more than an administrative exercise. It gave two brothers separated for nearly 35 years a chance to meet again.
