It was an event to celebrate former Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah's 75th birthday, and state party chief DK Shivakumar hugged him on stage in a grand show of unity. But many on social media are spoiling the party by pointing out that the hug was prompted by Rahul Gandhi.

Video clips from the mega event in Davangere on Wednesday showed Shivakumar raising Siddaramaiah's hand, and on getting a prompt from Gandhi seated nearby, proceed to hug Siddaramaiah.

Siddaramaiah, on his part, said all talk of a rift between him and Shivakumar is an "illusion and creation" of opposition parties. Both said the Congress would fight the upcoming elections in Karnataka under a collective leadership.

Soon after the Davangere event video people posted video clips pointing out how the hug came about.
