Shubman Gill has hit the purple patch as the Punjab cricketer has been continuing to score centuries with ease. Gill scored yet another century in the third ODI match of the series between India and New Zealand on Tuesday. The 23-year-old scored 112 runs off just 78 deliveries, hitting 13 fours and five sixes.

With this century, Gill also equaled Pakistan captain and one of the finest batters of modern times, Babar Azam's record of scoring the most runs in a three-match bilateral ODI series. Azam had achieved this milestone by scoring 360 runs against the West Indies in 2016 to become the batter with the most runs against the opposition in a 3-match ODI series. Gill has now scored an equal number of runs against an opponent in three games.

Here's the list of batters who have scored the most runs in a bilateral 3-match ODI series:

  • 360 Babar Azam vs WI 2016
  • 360 Shubman Gill vs NZ 2023
  • 349 Imrul Kayes vs Zim 2018
  • 342 Quinton de Kock vs Ind 2013

In the first match of the series, Gill wrote his name in the history books by scoring his maiden double-hundred in ODI cricket with 208 off 149 balls. In the second ODI contest, Gill scored 40 off 53 and helped India chase an easy target of just 109 runs in 50 overs.

Looking in impervious form, Shubman Gill earned the praises of fans and former cricket stars alike for his latest exploits on the field.
