In a gruesome incident, residents of a small town in Mexico witnessed a shocking scene when a stray dog was seen running on a street holding a human head in its mouth. The incident was reportedly filmed in the violence-hit northern state of Zacatecas. A video posted on social media showed the dog trotting down a darkened street, holding the head by the neck in its jaws, apparently intending to take it to a safe place to eat it.

According to reports, the incident happened last week. Local officials said that the head and other body parts were left in an ATM booth with a message for a drug cartel. But before police could reach the scene, the stray dog ran ran away with the decapitated human head from the ATM.

Local officials later confirmed the incident to the media and said the police managed to get the head back from the dog.


As per reports, one of the world's most feared cartels -- Jalisco Nueva Generacion -- is believed to be behind this.

The sparsely populated northern state of Zacatecas is used by the drug cartels to smuggle contrabands to the US. The state also a hub of criminal groups who use it to run drug labs and camps for training new recruits. The state is considered one of the most dangerous states and has one of the highest homicide rates in Mexico.

It is also witnessing a bitter turf war between local drug cartels. In these deadly tussle, Mexican drug cartels often leave these notes next to dead bodies as a form of intimidation toward rivals or authorities. These types of incidents first became prominent in the mid-2000s, when six severed heads appeared inside three months in the popular beach resort of Acapulco just before the 2006 presidential election.
