Shiv Sena MLA slaps mid-day meal kitchen employee over 'poor quality' food, video goes viral

Shiv Sena MLA Santosh Bangar has been caught on camera abusing and slapping an employee of a kitchen preparing mid-day meal in Maharashtra's Hingoli district.

The catering manager, whose identity is not known, was slapped twice, purportedly because food served to labourers was of poor quality.

A video of the incident has gone viral on social media, with Bangar seen shouting at the employee saying it is a loot of government funds. Bangar later said the food for the mid-day meal scheme was prepared at the kitchen with inferior quality material.


"This is loot of government (funds). They are playing with the lives of poor people. The state government should act against the culprits," PTI quoted him as saying.

Santosh Bangar belongs to the Eknath Shinde faction of Shiv Sena, and the Uddhav Thackeray camp hit out at him.

"Balasaheb Thackeray always taught us to protect the helpless and needy people, but see what this 'Goonde Sena' is doing... The people will teach them a lesson through the ballot box," Shiv Sena leader Dr. Raghunath Kuchik said.

This comes on a day another MLA from the Shinde camp - Prakash Surve - was in the news for exhorting violence against Thackeray camp followers.

"If you can't break their arms then break their legs... 'Thok do', show them their place. Don't worry... I, Prakash Surve will get you out on bail the next day," Surve told his followers.
