Shimla weather update: India Meteorological Department releases weather forecast for heavy snowfall in Shimla

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a weeklong forecast for heavy snowfall in Shimla and other areas of Himachal Pradesh, on Wednesday.

IMD added that the weather in the mountain state would not change significantly in the next two days. "There will be no major change in weather in the next 48 hours", IMD Himachal Pradesh head Surender Paul told the media. Temperatures in the state have dropped. Rain and snowfall will continue in most parts of the state after January 19."


Surender Paul also said that temperatures in Shimla were recorded at 0 degrees Celsius, with Keylong in Lahaul-Spiti recording the lowest at minus 11 degrees Celsius, and temperatures will continue to fall in the coming days.

Paul also predicted that heavy snowfall would happen in the region over the next week."During the upcoming week, Shimla and other areas will experience significant snowfall. Another strong western disturbance is expected in the region between January 22 and 26, according to the IMD official. Following the recent snowfall, nearly 115 roads in the state are still closed due to snowfall.

According to the Met office's forecast, there will be dense fog at isolated locations in Una, Bilaspur, Kangra, Solan, and Mandi through Monday. Thick ground frost is anticipated in Hamirpur, Una, Sirmaur, and Bilaspur, while isolated thunderstorms and lightning are possible in the plains and lower and mid hills, on Thursday and Friday.
