Shefali Jariwala, best known for her appearance in the popular music video Kaanta Laga, passed away at the age of 42 on Friday night at her residence in Mumbai’s Oshiwara. She was taken to Bellevue Multispecialty Hospital in Andheri by her husband Parag Tyagi and three others, where doctors declared her brought dead.

The cause of her death is yet to be officially confirmed. However, police suspect it may have been a cardiac arrest.

Eyewitnesses said Tyagi reached home around 10:30 pm. Shortly after, Shefali began feeling unwell and was rushed to the hospital. The police were informed around 1 am, and her body was sent to Cooper Hospital for a post-mortem.

A team from the Mumbai Police, along with forensic science experts, visited the couple’s residence and collected samples, including the medicines and an injection reportedly taken by Jariwala earlier in the day.

“She took her regular pills and an anti-ageing injection”

According to police sources quoted by The Indian Express, “Shefali took her regular pills that evening. She had also taken an anti-ageing injection in the afternoon, something she had been using for the past few years under medical supervision. Her blood pressure dropped later at night, and she started shivering.”

They also said she had been fasting the entire day for a puja at home. “Taking medication on an empty stomach may have worsened her condition,” added the source.

No foul play suspected

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9), Dixit Gedam, was quoted as saying: “Prima facie, there is no foul play, and the doctors have reserved their opinion on the cause of death.”

An accidental death report has been registered. Police have questioned at least eight people, including her husband, domestic staff, and the building’s security guard, as part of their investigation.

Final farewell

Jariwala was fondly known as the ‘Kaanta Laga Girl’ and had also appeared in Bigg Boss 13. Her final rites were conducted at the Oshiwara crematorium on Saturday in the presence of close family and friends.
