The incident took place on December 20 near an under-construction building close to Begur in south Bengaluru. According to the police, the couple was riding a motorcycle under the pretext of visiting a plot of land they had recently purchased.
"The building was being constructed near the site, and Anant, after getting off the bike, pushed Gayatri. When she fell, he beat her with a wooden log and other hard objects till she lost consciousness. Then he called an ambulance, claiming his wife had fallen from the bike and was injured," an investigating officer said.
Gayatri had multiple injuries when she was taken to the hospital. The doctors grew suspicious after examining the injuries and immediately informed the police. "The wounds indicated she was assaulted. We reached the hospital and detained Anant for questioning. The postmortem report confirmed injuries on Gayatri's body led to her death. After that, we arrested Anant," a police officer said.
Anant confessed to the crime and said he was angry with his wife for neglecting and insulting him, and for refusing to give him money whenever he asked.
