Shattila Ekadashi 2023: How to observe fast, perform puja

According to traditional beliefs, the fasting and worship of Lord Vishnu in the auspicious day of Shattila Ekadashi have special religious significance. The worship on this day is considered equal to hundreds of years of austerities, charity etc.

As per religious beliefs, offering sesame seeds to Lord Vishnu on Shattila Ekadashi is considered auspicious.
Ekadashi Tithis are one of the most sacred days for devotees of Lod Vishnu. Devotees offer prayers to Lord Vishnu on this day and observe fast to please the god. Ekadashi Tithis fall twice in a lunar month - in Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha -- and all Ekadashis are considered auspicious.

Once such important Ekadashi, Shattila Ekadashi falls in the month of January. According to Panchag, this Ekadashi falls in the Krishna Paksha of the Magha month of Hindu calendar. This year Shattila Ekadashi is falling on Wednesday, January 18.

Shattila Ekadashi 2023: How to perform Puja
As per religious beliefs, offering sesame seeds to Lord Vishnu on Shattila Ekadashi is considered auspicious. On this day, devotees should offer sweets made of sesame seeds Lord Vishnu. You can also use this day to bathe with sesame, apply ubtan, pour it in water, drink it, and do charity.

Worshipers should read or listen the fasting story related to Shattila Ekadashi.

You can also perform havan with sesame seeds to please the god.

While worshiping Lord Vishnu on Shattila Ekadashi and all Ekadashi, you should not forget to offer Tulsi Dal or Tulsi leaf. It is believed that any worship of Lord Vishnu is considered incomplete without Tulsi.
Along with Lord Vishnu, Goddess Lakshmi should also be worshiped on Ekadashi.

As told earlier, devotees should consume food items made of sesame seeds.

Even if you are not observing fast on Shattila Ekadashi, rice and brinjal should not be consumed on this day.
Do not cook non-vegetarian or vindictive food at home on the day of Shattila Ekadashi. Also, do not use garlic-onion in cooking.
