Sharing the special connection he has with the day, Tharoor reflected on being born on Mahashivratri and how his name, "Shashi," was inspired by the crescent moon on Lord Shiva’s forehead. In his post on X, Tharoor also mentioned that today marks his “nakshatram birthday,” according to the Kerala calendar, making it a day his family has always celebrated with deep reverence.
“Om Namah Shivaay!” Tharoor added, in a subsequent post, further echoing the spiritual tone of the occasion.
Meanwhile, political leaders across the nation shared their Mahashivratri greetings. President Droupadi Murmu wished for the blessings of Mahadev to remain upon all citizens, while Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his wishes for peace and welfare.
In another part of the country, thousands of devotees gathered at Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam for the last 'Snan' of the Maha Kumbh, coinciding with Mahashivratri, marking another sacred moment of the festival. Akharas from all over, including Niranjani and Juna Akhadas, participated in the event, each playing a pivotal role in the Shahi Snan.
