It was a warm and "special" welcome for Congress leader Shashi Tharoor when he flew from Hyderabad to Thiruvananthapuram on Monday night.

Tharoor was in Hyderabad to participate in an event and boarded an IndiGo flight back to the Kerala capital.

In a post he shared on Twitter, Tharoor said the pilot announced a "special welcome" to him and the passengers applauded.

This was followed by many young people on the flight going up to him for selfies and autographs, some of whom also happily posed with him for a picture.

“Unexpected moments: On my IndiGo flight from Hyderabad to Thiruvananthapuram last night, Captain Inderpreet Singh announced a “special welcome” for me and the passengers applauded. Spent most of the flight giving selfies. But some young passengers still came clutching autograph books."

Tharoor, who is a hit with the young crowd on social media because of his erudition, got some warm responses.

Others started wondering why , unlike in most of of his posts which have people searching for the dictionary, there was not a single difficult word in this one.

One smart user commented that even for someone like Tharoor it is difficult to spell his own constituency - Thiruvananthapuram.

IndiGo thanked him for travelling with them, calling him the 'Wizard of Words'.

Tharoor is running for the post of Congress president, and is set for an electoral face-off with Congress veteran Mallikarjun Kharge.

Veteran leader Kharge has the unofficial backing of rhe leadership and is hence the odds-on favourite, but Tharoor decided that there should be a contest.

More than 9,000 Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) delegates will vote in the polls.
