Shubh Muhurat (Auspicious Timing)
The Pradosh Vrat, an important observance for Lord Shiva's devotees, will be celebrated during the auspicious month of Sawan on August 17. This sacred fast begins at 8:05 AM on August 17 and concludes at 5:51 AM on August 18. Devotees are encouraged to perform Lord Shiva's worship in the evening to honor this special occasion.Puja Vidhi
Preparation for the puja starts with taking a bath one hour before sunset. Devotees should ready themselves both spiritually and physically for the ritual. The puja involves setting a water-filled 'Kalasha' (holy pot) on Darbha grass, representing the divine presence of Lord Shiva. Additionally, worshippers may bathe the Shivling with milk, ghee, and curd, and offer Bilva (Aegle marmelos) leaves, which are regarded as highly auspicious.Mantras To Recite
During the puja, the Pradosh Vrat Katha, which includes stories from the Shiva Purana, is recited. The ritual features chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra 108 times. Following the puja, participants receive a blessing with water from the Kalash and sacred ash applied to their foreheads. Donating utensils is also a common practice associated with the vrat. The day concludes with a visit to Lord Shiva’s temples, where a lamp is lit to symbolize the removal of darkness and ignorance.(with ToI inputs)
