The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued severe rainfall warnings across several states, with Red Alerts for extremely heavy rainfall in key regions. The warnings follow days of intense monsoon activity across western and southern India, affecting travel and daily life in many districts.

Western India (Maharashtra & Goa)

Red Alert: Incessant rains lashed Mumbai in the morning, inundating low-lying areas. Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Konkan coast, extremely heavy rainfall expected over next 16–24 hours

Orange Alert: Mumbai, Pune ghats, Kolhapur, Satara, very heavy rainfall forecasted.




Karnataka

Red & Orange Alerts: 14 coastal and Western Ghats districts — red/orange alerts for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall that will continue for the next 4 days.

Kerala

Red Alert: Five districts including Kannur, Wayanad, Kasargod, Kozhikode, Malappuram — extremely heavy rain through next 24 hours

Orange/Yellow: Surrounding districts like Palakkad, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Pathanamthitta (orange) and Alappuzha, Kollam, Thiruvananthapuram (yellow)

Madhya Pradesh & Andhra Pradesh

Red Alerts: Select districts in both states for intense thunderstorms and heavy rain.

Odisha

Orange Alert: Districts like Sundargarh, Keonjhar, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore — heavy to very heavy rainfall over next couple of days

West Bengal

Yellow Alert: Coastal districts including South 24 Parganas, East Midnapore, West Midnapore — heavy rain and thunderstorms expected.

As heavy rainfall continues to lash several parts of India, residents in affected areas are advised to take necessary precautions to ensure safety. Avoid stepping out unless absolutely necessary, especially in red or orange alert zones. Stay away from overflowing drains, waterlogged roads, and riverbanks, as there is an increased risk of flooding and electrocution.
