September 2026 School Holidays

1. Janmashtami School Holiday
Janmashtami will fall on Friday, September 4, 2026, and schools in several parts of India may remain closed to mark the festival. The occasion celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna and is observed widely across the country. Since Janmashtami falls on a Friday, students whose schools have Saturday-Sunday weekends could potentially enjoy a three-day break from September 4 to September 6. However, whether Saturday is a holiday will depend on the school’s regular weekly schedule and local holiday calendar.


2. Ganesh Chaturthi School Holiday
Ganesh Chaturthi will be celebrated on Monday, September 14, 2026, and schools in several parts of India may observe a holiday on the occasion. The festival is celebrated on a large scale in Maharashtra and is also observed in states such as Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
