Seniors shine in Rajasthan Rural Olympics kabaddi match: Watch video

Age has not much dulled their skills nor staled their infinite enthusiasm.

A video clip posted to Twitter by the Rajasthan government shows parts of a kabaddi match between elderly citizens and young men at the Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games.

The 1:56 minute video clip shows repeated raids by both the seniors and the youngsters, in which the elderly gentlemen dexterously move around the court both while raiding and defending.


Towards the end of the clip, one of the senior raiders outwitted four young defenders who tried to hold him back and went on to touch the line.

People on Twitter praised the seniors for their skill. "Uncle is the tiger." commented one user.

The Rajiv Gandhi Rural Olympic Games, in which more than 30 lakh villagers, both men and women, have registered. It was inaugurated by Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot.

Reports said 9 lakh of the particpants registered are women. Two lakh teams have been registered for the event.

The six competitions in the games are: Kabaddi, Shooting Ball, Volleyball, Hockey, Kho Kho and Tennis Ball Cricket. Of these, Kho Kho is open only to girls and Shooting Ball for boys.

The knockout matches at the gram panchayat level are from Aug 29 to Sept 1, block level from Sep 12 to Sep 15, district level from Sep 22 to Sep 25 and statate level from Oct 2 to Oct 5.

Gehlot termed the event the first-of-its-kind in the entire country, saying it was not about victory or defeat. He also said the games would promote communal harmony and camaraderie.

The CM also announced plans to make the games an annual event and assured to organise similar sports events in urban areas. "

"We will get talented sportspersons in these events and promote them further for participation in national and international sports events," he said.
