Census 2027 Self- Enumeration starts: Steps to register and complete it online before door-to-door counting.
The self-enumeration process for the first phase of Census 2027 (house listing and housing census) begins today, April 16, 2026, in six states and union territories — Haryana (including Gurgaon and Faridabad), Chandigarh, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh. This voluntary online facility will continue till April 30, 2026. After this, census enumerators will conduct door-to-door verification from May 1 to May 30, 2026, to cross-check the information and collect details from households that did not participate online.

The second phase of the census (population enumeration) is scheduled for February 2027 in most parts of the country.

Why self-enumeration for Census 2027?

Self-enumeration allows residents to fill household details at their convenience without waiting for enumerators. It is expected to make the process faster and more accurate while reducing the burden on field staff.

As per TOI, Gurgaon’s Additional Deputy Commissioner Sonu Bhatt urged citizens to use the facility. “This is not mandatory, but we urge people to use this self-enumeration process as it will be more convenient and save the time of the residents,” he said.
