The self-enumeration phase for the much-awaited Census 2027 officially kicked off in Telangana on Sunday, marking the start of India’s first fully digital census exercise. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla inaugurated the process in the state by completing his own self-enumeration online at Lok Bhavan. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy also participated and finished the process separately.

All three leaders urged the people of Telangana to actively take part in the self-enumeration and provide accurate information. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy described the Census as a foundational pillar for India’s development journey, essential for planning, governance, and equitable resource distribution.

He highlighted that Census 2027 will use modern digital technology for greater transparency, efficiency, and inclusivenes. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla noted that this is the first Census after the formation of Telangana, making accurate data collection especially significant for the state’s future planning in education, healthcare, employment, housing, and infrastructure.

  • Self-Enumeration Phase: April 26 to May 10, 2026 (6 AM to 12 midnight daily)
  • House-listing Operations: May 11 to June 9, 2026

How to Complete Self-Enumeration for Census 2027 Online (Step-by-Step Guide)

Self-enumeration allows households to fill their details conveniently from home before the enumerator visits. The process is simple, secure, and available in multiple languages.

Step-by-Step Process (as per official guidelines):

  1. Visit the official Self-Enumeration Portal: https://se.census.gov.in
  2. Select your State/Union Territory (Telangana) and enter the Captcha.
  3. Enter the name of the Head of Household (this cannot be changed later), mobile number, and optional email ID.
  4. Verify with the OTP sent to your mobile (and email if provided).
  5. Choose your preferred language (English or any of the 15 Indian languages).
  6. Fill in the household and personal details, including marking your house location on the digital map (laptop/desktop recommended for better accuracy).
  7. Submit the form. You will receive a unique 11-digit Self-Enumeration ID (prefixed with 'H') via SMS and email.
  8. Save the SE ID – you will need to share it with the census enumerator during the house-listing phase.
