Noida schools closed: Winter break in Delhi-NCR extended till January 17? Here's what the latest update says
School Holiday News 16th 17th January: Due to the dense fog and intense cold weather, the schools in Noida upto class 8 will remain closed on January 16 and 17, an official order said. However, schools in Delhi will remain open today and tomorrow....

"All schools from Nursery to Class 8 affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, IB, UP Board and other boards operating in Gautam Buddh Nagar district shall remain closed on January 16 and 17," the order said, adding that it must be strictly followed. The education officer warned that strict action would be taken in accordance with the rules against any school found violating the order by reopening during the closure period. Earlier, the district education department had extended the winter vacation for schools in the district till January 15 in view of the prevailing cold wave conditions.
" In view of the prevailing fog and cold weather conditions, all schools (from Nursery to Class 8) affiliated with all boards (CBSE/ICSE/IB, UP Board and others) operating in Gautam Buddh Nagar district will remain closed from January 16 to January 17, 2026. This order must be strictly followed. Teachers and staff of government/aided/private schools will report to school as usual," Office of the District Basic Education Officer, Gautam Buddh Nagar, said.

Schools in Delhi be open or closed tomorrow?
Schools in Delhi are scheduled to open from January 16 after weeks of winter vacations. There is no official word on closure of schools in the national capital tomorrow. However, considering the harsh weather conditions, parents and students are hoping that the Delhi government will extend the winter vacation for another week or so.For Delhi NCR, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, cautioning residents about cold wave conditions in isolated parts of the region. However, according to the official academic calendar issued by the Directorate of Education (DoE), the Government of NCT of Delhi, winter vacations for government schools will end on Friday. Meanwhile, the private schools in Delhi are open today. Only government schools were ordered to close between January 1 and January 15.
Dense fog warning for Noida
Schools in Noida have been ordered to remain shut as the weather department has predicted very dense fog tomorrow with maximum and minimum temperatures likely to hover around 6 and 20 degrees Celsius, respectively. For the next few days, the weather office has predicted mist/fog during early morning hours in Noida. The IMD has warned of very cold wave conditions in western Uttar Pradesh for the next two days following which the weather conditions might see an improvement.
