Diwali School Holiday 2025: Schools across India will remain closed for Diwali holidays this October, with the break starting on October 18 (Dhanteras) and ending on October 23 (Bhai Dooj). The six-day holiday period will include all major festive days such as Dhanteras, Chhoti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj.

Most schools across the country will follow this schedule, giving students time to celebrate the festival with their families. The holidays begin on October 18 and schools are expected to reopen after October 23.

State-wise variations in holiday schedules

While most schools will follow the pan-India holiday schedule, some states have announced longer or altered breaks. In Bihar, schools will remain closed for both Diwali and Chhath Puja, giving students an extended holiday till October 29.


In Karnataka, schools have been shut from October 8 to 18 due to the ongoing socioeconomic caste survey. Additional holidays have been declared on October 20 and 22 for Diwali celebrations.

Diwali School Holidays Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida

Schools in Delhi and NCR will remain closed from October 19 to October 23 for Diwali. Many institutions are expected to extend the holiday till October 28 to include Chhath Puja.

School Holidays: Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh

In Rajasthan, schools have already begun their Diwali holidays from October 13, and the break will continue till October 23, giving students a 12-day vacation.

In Uttar Pradesh, schools will observe Diwali holidays from October 20 to October 23, with October 19 being a Sunday, allowing students to enjoy an extended weekend break.

West Bengal School Holidays

In West Bengal, schools will be closed from October 20 to October 23 for Kali Puja, Diwali, and Bhai Dooj.

Andhra Pradesh school holidays

After a long Dussehra vacation, students in Andhra Pradesh are set for another festive break this week. Schools and colleges in the state will remain closed on October 20, 2025, for Diwali. Some institutions and offices may also remain closed on October 18 (Dhanteras), with October 19 being Sunday, allowing for a three-day festive break.

Diwali marks the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya, symbolising the victory of good over evil. Students in the state look forward to celebrating the festival with their families and friends.
