Parents and students from all over India are trying to find out if there will be school closures on November 2, since the month is approaching the holiday season for festivals. Some schools may start Diwali holiday vacation, while the others will keep their regular academic schedule.

Depending on the state, district and even particular school, the holiday period can be different. In the state of Maharashtra, for example, some schools may start Diwali holiday vacation on November 2 and end it on November 14, but the holiday common for all schools in India has not yet been approved.

Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and other students should consult the calendar of their schools to see if Monday will be a day off.

The month of November includes several festivals such as Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Bhai Dooj, Chhath Puja and Guru Nanak Jayanti. Depending on the state, there can be holidays related to these festivals, but the holiday schedule for schools is not the same.

Here is what you should know about the holiday period for schools in November.

November 2 is not a common school holiday in Delhi-NCR. Different schools can have different academic calendars for their students, especially during planning for Diwali holidays.

For Delhi, parents are advised to keep track of announcements made by school administration rather than considering the general holiday list. This holds true for Noida and Ghaziabad as well, being part of Uttar Pradesh, although different academic calendar policies can exist in schools.

Gurugram schools are supposed to be guided by the appropriate academic calendar unless any state government or school management announces something else.

As far as Uttar Pradesh as a whole state is concerned, there is no such announcement regarding the holiday in schools on November 2. Schools will probably celebrate holidays in relation to Diwali and other festivals later this month.

The parents should check the school apps or announcements before making arrangements for Monday. One school holiday doesn’t mean all schools in the city will have holidays on Monday.

Maharashtra schools may begin Diwali vacation from November 2

Maharashtra is one of the states where some of the students can enjoy their Diwali vacation starting from Monday.

The vacation time may start from November 2 and end on November 14. With such timing, students can return to classes on Monday, November 16, because November 15 is a Sunday.

It is essential to know that the given dates cannot be used as definite holiday dates for all schools in Maharashtra state. There may be different academic calendars for government and private institutions, and the vacation timing will depend on the notice given by the school.

There are different vacation periods for the students in Bihar, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh states.

The students in Bihar will not enjoy a vacation on November 2 because it is not a statewide school holiday in this state. In Bihar, there will be other holidays in November connected with Diwali, Bhai Dooj and Chhath Puja.

There could be a Diwali holiday at schools in Rajasthan from November 4 to November 15, and if so, then November 2 would be an ordinary working day for schools.

There could also be a Diwali holiday in Himachal Pradesh from November 6 to November 10. As such, November 2 would not be covered by the holiday.

The given dates are only indicative and not all-encompassing. Students are recommended to find out their school's working days and holidays before making travel plans.

November 2026 school holidays: Diwali, Chhath Puja and Guru Nanak Jayanti

The start of November might see a change in school timetables to gear up for the festival season. Nevertheless, the fact that there is a festival does not automatically imply that all schools will be closed.

Some significant events happen in November:

  • November 6, Friday: Dhanteras, the day that heralds the beginning of the major Diwali celebrations for many households.
  • November 8, Sunday: Diwali/Deepavali, which falls on the weekly holiday itself.
  • November 9, Monday: Govardhan Puja, a holiday in some states.
  • November 11, Wednesday: Bhai Dooj, which is celebrated in various parts of India.
  • November 15, Sunday: Chhath Puja, especially important in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh.
  • November 16, Monday: Martyrdom Day of Virangana Uda Devi, a holiday in Uttar Pradesh.
  • November 24, Tuesday: Guru Nanak Jayanti and Kartik Purnima, which might result in schools being closed in some areas.
It must be noted that the actual list of holidays for schools will depend on announcements from state governments and calendars of the individual institutions. Some schools might integrate festivals into their holiday period of Diwali, while some might resume their classes in between festivities.

As for the family, it is very essential to confirm the dates from the school calendar instead of taking the date of any festival from the general calendar as the holiday date.

Will the schools close for November 2? This closure has not been announced for the entire country yet. Some schools in Maharashtra might start their Diwali holiday, while some schools in Delhi NCR, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh might continue their normal classes.
