Jammu and Kashmir schools to remain closed on 22 July
The Jammu and Kashmir government has announced that schools in the Kashmir Division and the winter zones of Jammu Division will remain closed on Wednesday, 22 July.The closure comes after the government extended the summer vacation by three more days following an IMD weather warning forecasting widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, flash floods and landslides across several parts of the Union Territory.
Nainital schools closed on Wednesday
According to reports, the Nainital district administration in Uttarakhand has ordered the closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres on Wednesday, 22 July 2026.The decision has been taken as a precaution following IMD warnings of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and possible landslides, with authorities urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel.
Himachal Pradesh schools
Schools across Kangra, Mandi, Chamba and Sirmaur remained closed on 21 July after the IMD issued a Red Alert for extremely heavy rainfall.However, for 22 July, only Sirmaur district has an announced closure order extending through 22 July 2026.
For the remaining districts, no blanket state-wide closure has been announced for Wednesday. The state government has authorised Deputy Commissioners to monitor local weather conditions and take decisions on suspending classes depending on rainfall, flash floods and road safety.

The IMD has also forecast extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra on 22 July.
