School holiday on December 15: Are schools across India functioning Monday? All you need to know

Schools across most parts of India are expected to function normally on Monday, December 15, 2025, as the date does not coincide with any national or centrally notified public holiday.

Education department calendars across states indicate that the day remains a regular instructional Monday, with classes, examinations, and academic activities scheduled as usual for schools affiliated with CBSE, ICSE, and state boards.

No nationwide closure scheduled

There is no festival, government-declared holiday, or academic break listed for December 15 at the national level.


In key regions such as Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR, winter vacations are slated to begin later in the month, meaning schools will continue operations next Monday.

The same applies to southern, western and central states, including Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, where no regional observance falls on the date.

Jammu & Kashmir winter zone an exception

The only confirmed shutdown applies to schools located in the Winter Zone of Jammu & Kashmir, where institutions are already observing a longer winter recess due to harsh weather conditions. Schools in these areas had closed earlier in December under a pre-approved schedule and will remain shut on December 15.

Delhi-NCR: Watch for advisories

While schools in Delhi-NCR are not closed, parents may need to monitor official notices for possible shortened school hours or blended learning arrangements, especially for primary classes.

Such changes, if any, would be linked to cold weather conditions or pollution-related measures and are usually announced at short notice by local authorities.

Emergency closures remain localised

Education officials clarify that any last-minute suspension of classes elsewhere would only occur if district administrations issue safety-related orders, such as during extreme cold, dense fog, or other weather disruptions. In the absence of such directives, schools are expected to follow their normal timetable.

Delhi winter vacation dates

As per the current academic calendar, Delhi government schools are scheduled to close for winter holidays from December 23, 2025, to January 1, 2026. These dates remain subject to change based on official advisories.
