Schools may announce a holiday on August 18 if heavy rain, flooding or other weather-related disruptions make travel unsafe.

With monsoon rains expected to continue across several parts of India, students and parents are keeping an eye on possible school closures on Tuesday, August 18, 2026. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall in several regions, with some areas likely to witness heavy to extremely heavy showers. However, a weather alert does not automatically mean schools will remain closed. The final decision is usually taken by the state government, district administration, education department or individual schools based on local weather conditions, including flooding, waterlogging, landslides and disruptions to travel.
