Saudi Arabia has plans to build a huge skyscraper worth $1 trillion, which when finished could be the largest structure in the world, reports say.

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, the kingdom has readied the blueprint of the skyscraper which it dubbed the 'Mirror Line'.

The structure is expected to have two glass reflective buildings of up to 1,600 feet (487.68 metres) tall, the Journal claimed, quoting confidential papers running into hundreds of pages. What's notable is that the two buildings will run parallel to each other for 120.7 kilometres — across a terrain spanning coast, mountain and desert.

The report quoted officials as saying that the idea of the structure came after Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman asked officials to develop something as ambitious as Egypt's pyramids. WSJ claimed that the total cost of the project is expected to be about $1 trillion, and that it would house about five million people when fully constructed.

As the name - Mirror Line - suggests, the structure will entail two mirrored buildings. For commuting, there will be a high-speed train under the buildings, since it is being planned with no cars and zero pollution.

The buildings will have a honeycomb of hotels and residences. Vertical farming will be implemented for cultivating vegetables which will be autonomously harvested and bundled and moved into community canteens and co-living kitchens, the report said, adding that residents will be served breakfast, lunch and dinner on paying a subscription.

It will have a sports stadium about 1,000 feet above the ground. And a marina underneath an arch in the two buildings for yachts.

The Mirror Line is reportedly designed by the US-based Morphosis Architects, and involves at least nine other design and engineering consultants. Prince Mohammed bin Salman wants it completed by 2030.
