Purnima or the full moon day is considered to be one of the most auspicious days by the Hindus. On this day, people observe Satyanarayan fast, perform rituals and chant religious mantras.

While every Purnima or the full moon day is considered significant, Chaitra Purnima holds unique religious and spiritual importance as it is the first Purnima according to the Hindu Calendar. Devotees perform Shree Satyanarayan Puja and observe fast to please Lord Narayana, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

Satyanarayan Vrat April 2023: What is the significance?

Satyanarayan Vrat is considered auspicious among Hindus as they believe people, who worship Lord Vishnu on this day and observe fast are bestowed with blessings. Apart from religious significance, this day also holds immense spiritual significance. According to Vedic astrology, moonlight can increase the spiritual strength of a person, which is needed for a healthy and happy life. Devotees also believe that those, who worship the moon, are bestowed with Lord Chandrama’s (God of the Moon) divine rays, which lead to the fulfillment of wishes.

Satyanarayan Vrat April 2023: Puja Vidhi

Worshippers get up early in the morning to take a holy bath.
Devotees place an idol of Lord Shri Satyanarayan along with Shree Yantra on a wooden plank (Chowki).
Devotees decorate the plank with banana leaves and flowers.
Devotees light a diya with ghee and place a kalash of water in front of the Lord to begin the puja.
After this, they offer flowers, kumkum, and haldi to the Lord.
Devotees also prepare Prasadam, which will be offered to the Lord and distributed among people.
Prepare Prasadam with roasted wheat flour, and white sugar powder (use boora) and put thin banana slices.
Prepare Panchamrit (mixture of milk, curd, honey, sugar, and ghee) and put tulsi in it to offer Lord Satyanarayan.
Recite and listen to Satyanarayan katha (story of Lord Satyanarayan) and then perform aarti.
Devotees offer water to the moon in the evening and break the fast by having a satvik meal.
